Heaven Awaits a Good Boy

Heartbeats thumping in rapid unison
Chest hard pressed in his final resting place
The scent of sterile death whelms the toxin
Igniting the ducts in a scarce headspace
A drop on his tongue with a salty trace
Glitters in the blinding fluorescent ray
Each dense breath trickles unused time away
As tears of ire inspire his golden coat
One last moment to share our yesterday
And with that fourteen years have gone afloat

oh my, SO sad, Lukas. I have written of this kind of thing happening to one of my favorite pets as well. You did a good job in this challenge.

Putting down beloved pets is the absolute worst, often made worse by those who glibly dismiss your grief because, "it's just a dog." Sorry for the loss of your buddy, this was a nice tribute. -G

If ever there was a feeling of sadness, then these words describe exactly how it feels to watch one so close slip away and just move further and further till he returns never.... So well done brother, Lukas.

So Sad Lukas. Sorry to hear about your loss. I know the pain of losing a friend like that. I have lost many in my time but it isn't fair to watch them suffer to the end. It is much better to ease their pain and let them slip away in peace. Well Done, God Bless, JB
