Heaven and Back
My hand is held and voices heard
State of being is now blurred
Hugs are given their touch I feel
One more kiss they try to steal
I feel so cold and start to fear
Their love my courage, my blanket their tears
Time is short as minutes speed by
Soon I’ll have my answers to WHY?
A final glimpse at their face
My heartbeat now a turtle’s pace
Breath is labored, they all weep
As it approaches, eternal sleep
As the light begins to fade
My life goes by, a slow parade
Now my eyes so slowly close
I see a light, it starts to glow
“Release my hand, please take my ring”
“I must now leave on angel’s wings”
With one last breath, my soul released
Now this body is at peace
A new hand reaches out to me
As people from my past I see
This light now glows extremely bright
All colors now are shades of white
I now arrive at Heaven’s gate
There is no time, but still I wait
Voices now call out to me
Looking down, how can this be?
Above me stand my children and wife
As I lay there no signs of life
I watch them tremble, they’re so unsteady
“You must go back they aren’t ready”
“With more time you will be blessed”
As a stranger bangs my chest
“Go back to them they need you more”
I watch as they close Heaven’s door
Same angel’s wings take me away
I watch my family as they pray
The bright light now is at my back
The shades of white now turn to black
“Clear!” they yell, my body shakes
My eyes still closed I do not wake
Then I hear a steady beep
The breath I take it is so deep
I hear their voices and feel their touch
As she takes my hand in her clutch
I feel so blessed to see each face
Can’t let go, this warm embrace
I spoke of how I heard angels sing
She took my finger and replaced my ring
“I stood at Heaven, they let me leave”
"They could not stand to watch you grieve"
Many relatives that have long gone
Their faces I did look upon
They seemed so happy, no more pain
With good deeds, Heaven I’ll gain
A second chance is rarely given
So many sins I need forgiven
Use this time wisely, I have been warned
For this day you’ve been reborn
