Heat of Heart

Love that's born from the shadow of the past Some have thought that its verve would ever last But the spell of the hands of destiny Took the life of Cleopatra and Anthony One might think that those who are in power Could make the fierce hand of destiny cower But even the mighty Ceasar was slain He never thought that his own ghost was his villain For the heat of the heart without its ember Is like a ghost in the cold night of November Those who play with heart's flaws will soon decay Those who'll light its flame first may come to stay Those who cheat the heat of heart in name of glory Will soon face the blind eyes of raging fury But a heart tamed by spark will forever glow Its heat will melt the cold of night so love will flow April 21, 2023 A Brian Strand Premiere No 1210 Poetry Contest Sponsored By: Brian Strand
