Heart of Stone

Nobody ever helped me;
  I did it on my own,
  I worked hard all of my life;
  I did it all alone.

  Never once given a handout;
  to help me through dark days,
  When my bills and rent come due;
  Nobody else ever pays.

  I know you are struggling now;
  times are hard and money tight,
  It will do you good in the long run;
  if you have to struggle and fight.

  So don't bother me with your troubles;
  I've been through it all you know,
  Why should I make it easy for you;
  You reap what you sow.

  Why should I give you a break;
  I did it all alone,
  It did me good and made me stronger;
  for now I have a cold heart of stone.
