Heart If Darkness
for her i carry
a torch not a flame
but a flashlight
so that i
every night
can find
where
she
lays so that i
can lay beside
her until
one night not
realizing i had
left my light
on all
day
ritualistically
i took up
her torch
and put my
thumb on
the on
button
but
it was
already on
yet no light
lit my sight
leaving me
in unwanted
darkness with
a beating heart
thinking what
to do i began
an endless
journey
reading
braille
walls
and
all that i felt
that came
across my
path gasping
at a finger's
find that i
never found
any batteries
