Hear With Heart

In isolation I hear a lonely cricket Singing in my mind An empty silence Overflows from the abyss An undeserved bliss What is not, yet is To hear nothing is a gift A most unusual grace As I softly lose My faltering sense of sound I pretend to hear Or else I ignore Having convenient excuse Not to understand I would rather fear Of losing the sound of sense At such great expense These my only friends The cicadas lively song Which is horribly long Please don't say I'm wrong Or suffer unfair dispute To argue with a mute Hear the only truth Which I desire to part: Listen with your heart Those that hear have faith Yet trust comes to those sans ears Sown with seeds of tears
