He Wont Speak to You
Arnie and his artistic hog used to roar through town
The chicken livers ran off, and hid in ditches, way down
I liked what he had done to his cycle and told him as much
He gave me a nod and a wave, but did not speak as such.
He is a quiet artist, some said, he will not speak to you.
I lied about it, and told them,"Yes, he does too!”
He heard about the lie and brought his hog around to me.
“I’ll just speak to you,” he told me. “Then you will be speaking honesty.”
This was my first lesson that people are kind and do their best.
I told him I loved his hog, and he nodded, his words now at rest.
“He won’t speak to you,” said my grandma, “Don’t let that make you blue.”
For the first time I had no urge to correct her and say “he does too!”
