He Will Never See His Son

Has it been that long since you’ve been gone?
Yet the pain still lingers and, in my heart, you still live on.
What we had was a lifetime or so we thought,
Never thinking for a moment, it would be cut so short.
Too stunned to speak how could this happen to me?
You promised you would come back safely to me?
And now it comes down to all that is said and done,
I lost the man I loved and he will never see his son.
