He Needs To Stop Talking

I heard the request and I answered
I did not recognize the voice.
This teacher rarely calls for help.
I went right down.

Great.
It was the child with whom I had difficulty yesterday.
He is disrespectful and rude she said.
He interrupted her six times.
Yelling at her.

I asked him to stand further away.
She spoke to me and said, “I need a break”.
I understood.
I needed a break from this child yesterday.

We went to my office and talked.
I tried to talk but he kept interrupting me.
I was surprised at how much he blamed everyone else for his behavior.
I tried to explain he is the child, we are the adults.
He talked while I talked and did not hear me.

It took several tries before he realized
He needed to stop talking.
I partly blame his last year’s teacher.
I know that an hour into her class each day
the children had taken over, and she had given up speaking.
An easy way to set them up for failure the next school year.

Sounds like you have a handle on this one, Caren. Amazing, though, how many adults are still blaming others for their situations, too. If the teacher had spoken so softly that none of the students could hear her, they would have told the kid to shut up so they can hear the teacher. I always loved letting the kids solve many of the problems. They will do it. Peer pressure is a marvelous thing, actually, IMHO.

No...louder and louder never cuts it, as you know, Caren. Are you allowed to suggest alternative ways of dealing with these problems???

This teacher got louder and louder, and it never worked. I am allowed Hank, but my ideas are met with STONY SILENCE. How dare I?
