He Freed the Fossil

Gone is this planet's golden day,
when all of life in harmony.
Gone are the years when all pristine,
with earth and air and water clean.
Gone is the time when nature ruled,
        and populations were controlled.
Gone are the years when that fossil
was buried deep and rendered still.

Now man is here and on the make,
seeing that all is his to take.
Now more species become extinct,
due to mankind's greed and neglect.
Now man has freed fossil carbon,
and fills the air with its poison.
Now with pollution in the skies,
        global temperature starts to rise.
Now glaciers melt and swell the sea,
        taking us to catastrophe.
