Having a Little Fun
He found it in a drawer
next to his Daddy’s bed
he thought it looked real cool
so he picked it up to play with
and shot his sister dead
he didn’t mean to kill her
he was just
having a little fun
now everyone agrees
it was a terrible, terrible thing
but
you cannot blame the gun
for it was in fact a little boy
who shot his sister dead
and, as everybody knows
guns aren’t bad its people that are bad
so
that little boy who shot his sister dead
and saw what he had done
tragically believed
that he must be
one of those crazies with a gun
that he hears so much about
not knowing what else to do
he raised his Daddy’s gun
and shot himself in the head
joining his little sister
down there on the bedroom floor
as dead as dead can be
if asked to tell us why
that little boy would say
with the honesty and innocence
that only the young can wield
I was only doing
what my Daddy said you have to do
when someone crazy has a gun
you have to shoot them dead
before they shoot someone dead
because we all know
that that is what
a crazy with a gun
is surely gonna do.
