Harmonic Fracture
You came to me like a wish on a star,
I whispered, finally, here you are.
Your rhythm sang straight to my heart,
We shared a sandwich, a drink, a start.
I told myself, this will be okay,
But trust turned into rust and faded away.
Your smile grew wider and wider,
your baby blue eyes grew darker and darker,
You walked farther under the vast expanse of the sky.
You drank in whispers, only lies.
Was I the fool, or was it you?
Your storm of words, both false and true.
At work you danced; the world adored,
But I was handed a crooked sword.
The man I loved, my “forever,”
Faded like leaves in cruel weather.
You slept, you snored, you slipped from me,
Cheating with colors I could not see.
Crushed and hidden and snorted, they stole your fire,
While you accused me of the mire.
I crawled through dirt to bring your crown,
Yet you kept pressing, dragging me down.
The girl I was sank deep inside,
A broken doll with nowhere to hide.
Machines and lights became your affair,
I begged, don’t spend, but you didn’t care.
Leaves fell from the tree of your soul,
As poison swallowed you whole.
Food became art I couldn’t taste,
My body fading into waste.
You laughed a pitch that pierced my skin,
Admitting how you loved the pain you dragged me in.
Shattered dreams and ripped-up clothes,
I watched our love decompose.
Now I stare at the moon in its silver veil,
While you lie cold on a bed in jail.
I mourn the man you used to be,
Before you vanished into the sea.
I chose the light of a brand new day,
While you let the night take you away.
