Happy Now?

I used to think happiness was an emotion
Like anger, sadness, joy or fear,
But now I see the obvious,
That emotions come and go
As fleeting feeling-thoughts
While happiness, or depression in its absence,
Is simply an attitude towards those emotions,
Like a ship holding its passengers
Passengers which come and go
As easily as seagulls
In need of a place to rest.
