Notes About The Poem

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day

(this is not a “nice” poem…
do not send this to your mother,
without reading…twice)

I want to be the picture on the cartoon.
The milk box for the lost.
I want to be forgotten and left behind.
I don’t want you to remember,
that I am here at all,
so you will not give me…
to him.

When I am old enough,
I will run and hide.
No one will find me,
in the hole.
There are spiders,
but they do not bite…
me. (whispered in small voice… )
They are my heroes,
in life. (stronger tones)

Now you can not hurt me, (fierce)
You have not won.
I hate you more now,
and less now,
then I did then.

You matter little, except when they ask…
Who is your mother?
What is her name?
I grow mute, as I refuse to “claim” the shame,
of all that you gave, and all that it cost,
to be named as yours.

Ann, you sure did express yourself well in this one. We all have close or not close relationships with our mothers Panagiota
