Happy Birthday, Dearest Son

Father and son remember this day
Different vantage points, if you may
A day of celebration and reflection
Joined together by divine connection

A relationship born on wings of hope
Beliefs developed to help us cope
Life happened in between then and now
We still ask, “What, Why and how?”

I felt a surge of love when I first said his name
On this day twenty eight years ago, he came
It was at night in a simpler world
That he cried out, all curled

I wish him well and a great year ahead
A Father's blessing I place on his head
My Father in heaven has covered our backs
The closer He merges our tracks

Happy Birthday, my dearest son
Our race of love, has not been won
We move to a place of abundance anew
Trusting that we will be counted, among the few
