Happy April

Happy April to you from me
Here’s what I’ve been thinking you see
Has it been another year
We’ve survived it my dear?
I just don’t know how that can be
Happy April to you from me

Happy April to you from me
You pulled me to one shaky knee
And dragged me to my feet
To stumble on and beat
At that door while you search for the key
Happy April to you from me

Happy April to you from me
You are earning your hard-knocks degree
You are passing the test
You deserve all the best
Take my hand and we’ll run wild and free
Happy April to you from me…


***This is a poetry form I unknowingly ‘invented’ in 2002. It was written to my wife to commemorate the anniversary of the death of our son in 2001. It resembles a limerick but has identical repeating 1st and 6th lines in each verse and is one line longer than a limerick..

Debbie Guzzi April 4, 2014 at 3:16 PM I always liked this verse and to me it is not limerick like a all, the repeat line pulls at your heart strings just as it should. Did you name the form Tim. Light & Love

Andrea Dietrich April 2, 2014 at 1:30 AM those are what I call happy inventions of poetry. We just fall into a type of meter and feel compelled to use it all the way through. This is how I did the 7/5 trochee. It's not really an invention of mine but more of me just taking a type of meter and expounding on it and making rules for its use in a new type of poetry. Andrea Dietrich March 21, 2014 at 10:27 PM Tim, this is cute. I like short sweet forms like this. Reminds me a bit of my 7/5 Trochee. (which is not so much invented, as me just taking a common meter and making stricter rules for it). you really should try to get this form put up somewhere as your invented form. Try marie Summers at Shadowpoetry.com. I hope she is still taking mail over there. She has lots of poets' forms up at her website already!
