Happiness Is An Ideal Created By What You Know
happiness
is
an
ideal
created
by
what
you
know
see the old woman bent over in her garden
scraping for something to eat?
she smiles a toothless grin
she is happy
though we would not find her sitation ideal
happiness
is
an
ideal
created
by
what
you
know
see the child playing in the mud
his knees a mess of scrapes and grass?
he laughs and claps his hands
he is happy
though we find being dirty an awful inconvenience
happiness
is
an
ideal
created
by
what
you
know
see the man grinning ear to ear
counting his cheques and coins?
he giggles and licks his lips
he is happy
though we judge him for being wealthy
happiness
is
an
ideal
created
by
what
you
know
if we knew the lives these three live
end to end
day to day
they might not make us happy
these lives may not be for us
but these three are happy
happiness
is
an
ideal
created
by
what
you
know
