Notes About The Poem

Hand In Hand

Hand In Hand

Some say love is like a river
that flows both wide and deep.
I say love is like the dreams
that find you when you sleep.

They can't be called or summoned
and from them you can't hide.
They can't be chained or bound
or forever kept inside.

Dreams like love will call on you
as if by their own will.
Love like dreams will follow you
the way it follows still.

Dreams drift through the shadows
and sometimes frighten you.
But none of them more frightening
than finding love that's true.

Like childhood days and childhood ways
after innocence is lost.
Losing love and shattered dreams
are all part of the cost.

Dreaming dreams of love so sweet
and loving what we dream.
Somewhere calling out our name
we hear our own heart scream.

Love like dreams and dreams like love
one day we'll understand.
Together for forever
the two walk hand in hand.
