Hammer To a Concrete Heart

I did not write for many years;
Nay! I ne'er penned a verse!
I was too consumed by fears:
The kind that cripple first...
Ev'ry thought was coarse- was terse!
A concrete Heart about to burst!-
Devoured by Dragons when I fell off the wagon-
Please, stop reading, and call me a hearse!

Thanks, Kelly. You picked up on the intended irony of the title: a hammer is pretty useless against concrete, hence no hope of breaking it open. I thought in the last line it would be fun to actually address and engage the reader; not sure if it helps or hinders the piece. I will check out your poem very soon! :)
