At the very least it was only a flashback - not the war itself. Thanks for stopping by!

An acrid sense of pretty flowers. Thank God for springtime April showers. Peace. :)

Your comment made me smile... if only we could all speak in rhyme... all the time ;)

To me this haiku speaks with several tongues...the beautiful and the ugly. I can see the need to give the young a chance to live and grow, saving them from the ugliness of war....I can also visualize the victims of landmines and other fatalities of war. Of course, you have your personal ideas, but we are left free to ponder....// paul

Paul... I just love how thoughtful your comments always are. I can tell you took the time to actually read it and it makes me happy :) Your second interpretation is spot on to what I was actually intending for this haiku. Your first interpretation fits also, but it's not actually what I had in mind... but that's a good thing! It shows that half the beauty is what the reader takes out of it :)

wow, VERY good one!! I don't know if you will see my reply, but yes, the man really said the words: I am not afraid. It was a scene from a good movie I saw this year.
