I wonder how many people were expecting dungflies, you confounded me, making you a winner, congratulations Jack. Mick

Thank you, Mick. I'm so pleased. I really struggle with haiku, even when it's 575. I tend to overthink my haiku to death. 353 really forced me to let go of trying to make it about something. I was in the john at Walgreens when i saw the contest, and i know most authentic haiku comes from observing nature, so i tried to transpose my authentic experience into something an ancient haiku poet might observe in nature. it seemed so crude, though, so stuck the dragonflies in at the end to conclude with a pleasant image. As is, i guess i kind of see it as a statement that ugliness and beauty don't always exist in isolation from each other. Thank you so much for generously including me amongst the other wonderful entries.
