Grown

You know when you have grown
When what you know becomes what you’ve known
Looking back at what you could not see
Holding onto what could not be
One step at a time, some big some small
Getting back up when you sometimes fall
Any feelings are better than numb
Standing still when I used to run
Being aware of what I chose not to know
What I thought was dead has begun to grow
Looking ahead when I used to look back
Living for today instead of my past
Learning the fine lines between that and this
Grabbing opportunities that I once missed
Thanking god for my blessings instead of asking home “why?”
Learning how to live instead of wishing to die
I’ll never go back to where I used to be
I’ll never be blind to what I could not see
All of this has changed in me
All because of my desire to be
