Grieving On A Jet Plane

I dropped her by the departure gate Watched her walk through the revolving door It wasn't that she was running late  But we had both been here before We don't believe in long goodbyes That's what we told each other What was the sense in protracted sighs And the feeling of being smothered We promised that we would stay in touch While trying not to suffocate We didn't need the togetherness crutch We were masters of our own fates But the devil fools with the best laid plans With no regard for what we think is right And that is why this poem began Because I really miss her tonight
