Greyhound After Midnight - Contest

(saw a mistake with a rhyme and just now revised this)

I’m on a Greyhound bus – six hours till dawn
It’s late and dark. I think that I must be
the only passenger whose light is on.
I’ll keep that tiny light trained down on me
because I want to write some poetry!

Are people sleeping on this late night ride?
Perhaps, but I will still keep on my light.
There’s little talking; maybe some folks bide
their time while looking out onto the night.
Not I! I take delight in time to write.

The image you have created here is utterly authentic and believable with a poets message at the end. Nice one! Andrea

This reminds me of being on the airplane on a night flight. Can never sleep so I read and hope I am not disturbing passengers that want to sleep. Best wishes for a contest win! : ) xxoo

Your back is home again as well as rest of you safely. Do you still work during the summer months?

Your attitude in the poem is delightful and lighthearted. The bus atmosphere came to life for me; the scattered hushed sounds in the dark, the feel of bus wheels consuming road and the lit driver's section where a stranger holds your safety in his hands. People were probably on lit devices unless you heard snoring! Well done iambic. Love, CayCay

Hello Andrea … I could feel in your verse that sleep wasn't an option, put writing down your thoughts would help you get through the boredom and the night - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

you are so right. I simply cannot sleep anymore unless in my bed or recliner with tv on low and usually having taken a sleeping pill!! the guy across from me on the bus was just sitting there doing nothing the whole time. How boring!!

Lovely verse Andrea, could just picture the scene, you and the driver the only two awake. Hope you had a lovely break meeting your family. Tom
