Oh, man, Gretel! What a cute name for a pup. I have saved 19 dogs from the kill shelters. I can name them all. Why did I never think of that name? When my dog Lucky died (after 12 years with us) I decided I could be sad a year, a month, a week or two days. I chose 2 days and brought home Sophie Helen (a cocker) two days later. I knew Lucky would not want me to be sad any longer than that because she loved me so.

Of all the dogs we have had over the years, Gretel is the only one we've saved her ashes to put in with us. One of these days, I'll join Deb and when I do, in will go Gretel's, too. She was a true jewel.
