Great Expectations

Sit still
Don't wriggle
Don't pick your nose
Or giggle

Don't run
Slowly walk
Close your mouth
Don't talk

Don't tease
Say Please
Excuse yourself
Whenever you sneeze

Don't dribble
Wipe your chin
Can't you feel the
Mess you're in

Don't look at me
With those eyes so blue
Do I expect too-much
Of a boy aged two

As I did my laundry this morning, I was reminded - going down the stairs - how my mother insisted I walk with my toes pointed straight ahead (no child of her's would waddle like a duck nor be "pigeon-toed"!), so thoroughly enjoyed this, Shirley! Aloha! Rico

G'Day Rico So pleased you enjoyed the rhyme, I enjoyed your comment too. Sit up straight, shoulders back and other rules to be obeyed when sitting at the dinner table etc. Little girls should be seen and not heard was one my father used a lot.... how times have changed. PS I hope you washed your whites separate from your coloured laundry ...

Maybe. Maybe not. In any case, I loved the rhymes and the lessons and the memories of being a little kid, Shirley

Thank you, for your kind comment, so pleased it brought back happy memories. I think caring parents wanted to set a standard for their children to live by and pass on to others. Respect and care for both..... Take care...Shirley
