Great Escape

Gone are the days when I could
Run and hide from chopping wood -
Escape from chores that I found boring
And beneath me when rain was pouring
Torrents on my young and eager head.
Easy was the life that I lead.
Somewhere along the way it came -
Chores and learning were all the same
Abounding with lessons the work would give,
Powerful knowledge to help us live -
Each chore I dodged, someone else lived my life
