Richard, Yes, it is natural for the Great Blue to stand still and look for fish so he/she can eat. It is just natural for the children to throw the rocks as well. Two separate entities doing their own thing. Thanks for dropping by. Your comments are valued. Sara

I was going to say that intuition, fear, experience and/or lack of knowledge are the main reasons for ignorance in children but then I read further down that the children hadn't seen the heron. My mind then turned to your juxtaposition of the stillness of the bird with the restlessness and play of the children. I enjoyed the read.

Gary, I see intellect drew you into the thinking position. Oh! The children were throwing rocks mostly to slash each other. The hoops and laughter were from shock of the cold water, etc. I appreciate you reading, thinking and taking time to comment on my work. Sara

Hi Sara And then your heron came to our pond and snatched a moorhen chick. Tony

Tony, I hope that the Great Blue did not do that unless the moorhen chick was a special treat. Thanks for your visit. Sara

Andrea, I went to the river, saw the scene, wrote the haiku, and then went on the internet to find the picture. I have a picture of a great blue that I took years ago but the photos that I had on my computer were lost in the process of having to get a new or several new computers. I have no idea where the copies are of the old photos. Sara

Children, like nature, need taming. Insightful juxtaposition here, Sara. A superb haiku! :) gw

Gershon, They were just throwing rocks into the water trying to splash each other. It was fun and games to them. They had not even seen the great blue because he blended into the scenery on the other side. . I saw him because we had been before and I have watched him fish and eat. Thanks for your kind review of my work. Sara

Alexis, I can't remember if I entered it in a contest but don't think I did. I think it would need some work if I entered it in a contest. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

A lovely Haiku, herons are very fascinating to watch, their serenity unmatched....of course, kids only see a target.

Paulette, I am sure if they had seen him, he would have been a target or for some of them he would have been. Thanks for the visit with such a nice comment. Sara

Victor, The little rascals had not seen the Great Blue if one did not know he was over there it would be hard to see him for he blended into the background. I don't know what they would have done had they seen him. I would hope they would not throw rocks or try to cross the river to get to him because that would have been very dangerous. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Tom, Right I am thankful that I have been able to prepare breakfast and have part of a meal prepared for our lunch(which is our main meal). I am tired so I sat down here to rest a little. Thanks for dropping by. Sara
