Notes About The Poem

Plants have feelings, and scientists have shown that they react when cut or harvested with plant equivalents of 'screams in agony'. Sensitive instruments have proven plants have primitive nervous systems and feeling, which register twiddles on their instrument dials.

Most vegetables we eat are ALIVE when we eat them. Carrots are alive, seeds are alive, apples are alive, oranges are alive, nuts are alive, soy beans are alive. So vegans eat creatures that are alive when eaten. Carnivores eat dead animal tissues, from carcasses or animals killed by someone else. These findings have made many vegans and vegetarians think again about their ethics.

There is a new category of ethical eating called DEADANS - people who only eat plant and animal products, tissues, and ingredients that are guaranteed dead, killed humanely by someone else. See http://hubpages.com/health/Beyond-Vegans-to-Deadans-NoOrgans-for-Ethical-Negative-Entropy-Food .  All plant and animal and dairy products must be dead when eaten. That is, all food items consumed must be cooked, nothing eaten is fresh and still alive.

A new set of restaurants has been established to cater for the ultimate ethical eating. One of these new restaurants is the 'Nothing Alive Here, Bistro',  in downtown New York City. It has been nicknamed 'The Grateful Dead Diner'.

Grateful Dead, Deadans Diner

Welcome to the ultimately ethical food restaurant and take away.
All dishes are guaranteed dead, for all plant and animal products and ingredients.
Vegan ethics has been shattered and thrown under a 'food-to-go' bus
By the findings that plants have feelings and get hurt just like us.

A scientist connected plants to machines to test their feelings
When prodded with fork and cut with sharp knife.
To everyone's surprise, impaled carrots, tomatoes and even lettuce
Squeaked and shrieked out with unconscious 'pain', just like us.

Plants have nerves, plants have feelings, plants get hurt,
When harvested and killed, just like cows, chickens, fish and prawns.
They scream out in agony when dragged from earth, sliced, grated, or cut from vine,
Making the ethical choice of what to eat humanely, most sublime.

At the 'Grateful Dead, Deadans Diner' we solve all your problems and concerns.
Nothing here is served fresh; no plant or animal part on your plate, is served alive.
Everything has been killed by someone else; all food on your plate is guaranteed dead,
Cooked, steamed, micro-waved, fried and sautéed; nothing served fresh nor alive and kicking, all dead instead.

John, this is all very interesting and the poem is great. I think I'll just keep eating the soul food I was raised on but I do appreciate the invitation and the knowledge:)
