Grandfather-A Poem For a Dear Loved One

I stood in your room over you....
   looking down at you in tremendous fear.

It was hard for  me to see you that way....
   not knowing if you'd wake, wake that day.

You opened your eyes and shed a tear....
   you'd have no fear, but still I was near.

Hand in hand, we would wait....
   not knowing if you'd pass, pass early or late.

Grandfather, my prayers were with you....
   for whatever you decided to do.

I said to you, "You would always have a life....
   whether it be up with the angels or here with your wife.

I told you that if you had to go....
   that I would still love you so.

....you passed that night....
    with just me in sight.

Grandfather, you will live on in all of us....
   for eternity, just because.

I love you Grandfather....
   I love you.
