Grains of Sand
As we sift through the grains of sand
Falling from the hourglass,
Like time, it slips through our hands
As through its eternal realm we pass
Time measures our joy, our sorrow
And knows when the bells of fate do chime,
When it does, we can neither beg nor borrow
To turn back the hands of time
If only we could go back to that year
To change events which took loved ones in their prime
The 'what ifs' dissolve into tears,
If only we could turn back the hands of time
Many summers have come and gone
Since last we saw them smile,
But who can hold back the dawn
Or banish the morning dew in exile
