Notes About The Poem

Challenged myself today (14 Dec 2018) to write one song a day until my next semester classes start in late January.  Also, I just joined tonight the West Coast Songwriters organization and want something for their monthly meeting ned week.  I was walking home from work this afternoon, talking into my cellphone recorder, trying to put a different spin on wanting someone, and came up with the lines "He's leaving her, or she's leaving him" and thought of the opportunity and the risk involved because the lady might be hurting or mad at men etc.  That's what inspired the song, but don't have clear music yet in mind oher than that is sounds more like a country song than anything else.

15 Dec  Reworded it a bit for song flow and combined the two chorus endings.  I usually make musical chord progressions for guitar, but I can here this song with more of a Floyd Cramer style country piano, like a Patsy Kline song.

Gotta Risk It All For Love-Update 1

Gotta risk it all for love (20181215)

I’ve had a thing for her Since sometime way back when
But he’s been in the way Since I was nine or ten
Settled for someone else Who kinda made me smile
My heart just wasn’t there She’s been gone for awhile

I’ve heard he’s leaving her Or she’s escaping him
I can’t say I’m sorry I hope it’s not a whim
I know how rumors go But I think this is real
Looks like I’ve got a chance To tell her how I feel

(chorus)
If I told her how I feel, Would I lose her as a friend?
Or if I spoke up too soon, Would I make her sad again?
But if I spoke up too late Would somebody else step in?
Gotta risk it all for love, Though I might lose a friend.
Gotta risk it all for love Today, until, the end!

Always been kind to her, Treated her with respect.
But have I got a chance? Don’t know what to expect
There’s something in her eyes, It seems they want to say
“Better speak up your mind. Or I’m not gonna stay!”

(repeat chorus)

To tell or not to tell, well that is a tricky one and very well sung. A relatable topic and a right on rhythm to your words, well done. :)
