Goodbye Mosel
We said goodbye to Mosel
My beloved wife and I,
To the fast flowing river
Under its wide open sky;
The long steep bergs where
We helped pluck the vine?
And the very next year tasted
Our labour’s sweet white wine;
To the Cochem Ice Parlour
We visited every stay,
Its mouth watering products
A highlight of any day;
To the quiet village of
Mosel valley charm
That Welcomed us
With open arms;
Goodbye to the family
Of friends of many years,
Silent long hugs as
We held back the tears.
The promised short year
Very nearly now gone
As terminal cancer had
Marched inevitably on.
Goodbye to the valley where
Love had matured and grown,
Too many special memories
For me to return on my own.
At the end
Death was kind
For she slipped
Into her mind
Sleeping through
To the end of her race
With such a smile
On her face,
And I wondered
Could it be
She’d been roaming
The Mosel with me.
