Goodbye Meat

[I have no idea if Cilla Black ever made it outside the UK But suffice is to say that no rock legend would ever beef- up his image by proclaiming his adulation for the Liverpool lass. The following is absolutely true regarding a line from Meatloaf’s ‘Bat Out Of Hell’. To this day I almost always sing… ‘I’m gonna hit the highway like a battering ram I’m a Cilla Black fan on bike’] * Thank you Meat for your music so fine Including my favorite mis-heard line I spent so much time hitting play and rewind But the actual lyric my ear couldn’t find I kept hearing you crying out something like ‘I’m a Cilla Black fan on bike’ Eventually I asked my old mate, Mike Who Said it’s ‘On my silver black phantom bike’ * [Rest in peace, Meatloaf]

Understood! The wife always said I had cloth ears for mishearing, "Can I believe the magic of your thighs" in "Will you still love me tomorrow" . . . Aloha!

Hey, Terry, a superb tribute poem for Meatloaf. I think either line worked rather well.

All you had to do Terry was look inside the LP cover, that’s how I learned all the lyrics from the Bat out of hell album, my mates where always mixing up the lyrics too, seen him in Dublin in 1982, Class act, and great poem too, cheers David

The only band I ever truly studied lyrics were/are Sparks. But in the Bat Out Of Hell days I listened to most of my music on cassette while driving. I only actually caught that line while driving from London to Harrogate and I must have rewound and replayed twenty times… simply not willing to believe the line could be as I was hearing it. That line has stuck with me ever since. Cheers David. Terry

Would love to have seen him live… never did but not really sure why. I certainly used to see a few concerts in those days. Terry

Even knowing the right lyrics, I still hear ‘my’ version. It amuses me that our non UK friends will wonder what the hell a ‘Lorra’ is. Thanks, Gary. Terry
