Goodbye But Why

I must bid you a sad goodbye And with your deep eyes you say “But why?” Because my heart is dying Again with your eyes crying “But why?” So I bend upon a weak knee Breathing deeply to answer your plea I love you, that is why I love your eyes, your embrace, the curvature of your face That is why Still you do not understand Once more with an open hand “But why?” Now with a tear in my eye Because you do not love me Do you not see You shake your head Not understanding a word I have said One last time, one last moment To explain what I have meant On both knees this time to hear my please Your heart is in her hands In mine it falls like time’s sands You run to her embrace In mine there is no trace Now do you comprehend That is why I am no friend
