Goodbye

It is with a heavy heart
that I have to say these words,
I've given it much thought
and they must be heard.
You've never appreciated
all I've done for you,
I've cried many nights
trying to get through.
When I question
your love for me,
Vague answers
are all I receive.
It's like pulling teeth
to get you to open up,
I'm constantly knocking
on the doors you shut.
You've used me up
until I had nothing left,
Emotionally drained
There's now a void in my chest.
Whenever you need me
I'm right by your side,
But when I call
you don't have the time.
A one way street
is what I seem to be on,
Reciprocation
is a concept too far gone.
I've had about enough
of giving you my all,
Only to get
Neglect and disregard.
And like a caged bird
I'm aching to be free,
Looking out for myself
No longer bound by loyalty.
You were the main character
in my book called life,
but this chapter has now ended,
so to you I say,
Goodbye.
