Gone Without a Trace

Who would think something that means nothing would matter so much
Black and white fade to gray it seems I'm out of touch
A smile seems to bring me back to myself
But when I return I'm someone else.

The coldness of winter seems to seep to my bones
My feet grow heavy they feel much like stones
I fell off the slope now I lie down below
On the bright side there's nowhere but up to go.

The lines on the paper become lines to no place
All of a sudden a smile comes to my face
Memories return even though you are gone
The world spins even faster I try to hold on.

I try to remember good times when all I see is bad
A sanctuary of sorts the times that we've had
Maybe there's a rainbow up around the bend
Life becomes a circle the beginning connecting to the end.

Still a smile comes as I see where I stand
The spinning gets faster I'll hold on if I can
Time pauses for just a second or two
I drift back in time to thoughts of you...

Kindness infects me then I'm able to see
Things I can change and things I'll let be
I see a face and then I think I'll be okay
I find pieces of myself inside what you say.

Hope you can stay I don't want you to go
My heart beats faster and then it does slow
A kiss seems to take me to a faraway place
Then it all vanishes gone without a trace.
