Going To the Movies

As an avid movie fan, I loved to go and see A film the day it opened And my husband would agree. We’d meet up on a Friday night; I held our place in line And once inside, we’d scope out seats And they did not recline! We brought our snacks or maybe splurged On popcorn, butter-drenched And stayed until the credits rolled, Both thoroughly entrenched. It changed for me when seats became The big recliner types And choosing seating in advance Was one of many gripes. The lure for me was mostly gone When Covid hit the scene And now it’s likely I will never Watch a film on screen. At home, relaxed, I get to see The movies Netflix makes And if I miss some I can’t see, I feel like – them’s the breaks!

My husband and I feel the same way about watching TV on a big screen now "And now it’s likely I will never Watch a film on screen." - why take the risk?

Looks as if you've put on the brakes here, ilene...

I only see movies when my daughter appears in the credits, and never on TV as the credits roll too fast to read - if they appear at all! But I do recall the days when a film ended and everyone stood to sing their national anthem, especially in Amsterdam, where one could smoke and drink beer whilst watching the cinema (mothers with crying babies could retreat to a glass crybaby room). . . .

I always enjoyed going to watch a film, but perhaps it was because I did not go often. Nowadays I only go with my granddaughter, but that had to stop when Covid came :( ~ Regards // paul

Ilene, you've described my feelings to a "T." I don't know that I'll ever go to the theater again, because I can watch a movie (new to me) on Netflix or HULU and pop my own corn for a fragment of the cost I'd pay for a movie at the cinema. Yep, times have changed!
