Going Back
The other day
I went astray
Just walked the streets
I used to know
Stores long gone
Just felt real low
Familiar faces
Not one in sight
Odd people there
Things just not right
The drug store guy
My candy store
The barber
My best of friends
All no more
Yet I have to quell my fears
I've not been back for fifty years.
Buildings where I used to play
Still standing there
But in decay
Windows, doorways all with bars
Streets are empty
No parked cars
Broken vials every where
No one left
Who seems to care
As I leave
And drive away
I think of how I used to play
In the streets we hit a ball
Then we heard our mothers call
Up we went
In for the night
Everything just seemed
Real right
But that was very long ago
So now its time
To let things go
