God's Plans and My Tomorrows

GOD’S PLANS AND MY TOMORROWS I have no promise of tomorrow, Though I may have my plans and dreams, A sudden loss, perhaps a sorrow May change my careful hopes and schemes. I plan my days, my hours, my minutes, There’s so much I still hope to do, But I must be sure that God is in it And that it is in His will, too. So I must say as plans I’m making, “If it’s God’s will, this day will be,” And in each deed His presence taking To make it what He wants for me. If I make plans for self and gather The things of earth, its gold and gain, When death comes all I have won’t matter, For nothing follows when death has me lain. There’s nothing wrong with hopes and dreaming, Preparing for the future days, But God left out of all the scheming Is sure to lead me far astray. My life is like a passing vapor, Quickly passing through its time, A story written on a paper, Just some plain and passing lines. If I live not now for God’s glory, I’ll have no reward there on high; All my life here just a story, Not a crown there by and by. So I’ll put aside the sinning, Trusting Him as now I stand, And I’ll make a new beginning Taking God in all my plans.
