Gods Creatures
Sat on the park bench
holding hands
Watching the children's marching bands
Cheering as in the air
the batons flew
humming the tunes the kids
played on their kazoo's.
Every penny they had
put in the collection tin
Smiling as they heard
each coin drop in
Applauding as the kids
finished their show
''come darling''
Its time for us to go.
Carefully they cross
the busy road
Impatient tempers of drivers
very soon explodes
He whispers to her
soon they will see
how quickly we become so elderly .
He asks if she'd like a cup of tea
but she never heard
She's in the garden feeding their last
slice of bread to the hungry birds
They don't mind if they go hungry
They have tea to quench their thirst
Feeding gods creatures
must come first .
Tomorrow will be a brand new
pension day
They'll buy food
Then put a little money away
That will pay the household bills
and help with their funeral
when it comes
but upward each year
they must adjust their sums .
They have little money
but they are millionaires
because when they look in each others eyes
They see the other cares
all that really matters
is that when push comes to shove
They lived their lives
knowing the meaning of true love.
Thank you to my friend Kathy for the idea.
