God With Us

When Angels to the shepherds brought,
the good news of what God had wrought
They shared that through the virgin birth
God had in flesh, come down to earth.

The babe the shepherds found that day,
cradled in crude trough, lined with hay,
was God who earth and heaven made,
in David’s town, to men displayed.

The boy whose wisdom Rabbis hailed,
was God with us, deity veiled,
so, He whose mind all knowledge knew,
could learn as all His creatures do.

The humble teacher Rabbis scorned
was God with us, as human born
The One of whom the prophets wrote
was made to die as their scapegoat.

God with us endured sin’s pain
the source of life, by humans slain.
Guiltless was He who bore man’s shame
that man His righteousness might claim.

God with us, what a wondrous thought
that God to man, salvation brought.
What glorious incarnation this,
in Christ, justice and mercy kissed.

Let us with the shepherds, seek Him,
and with the wise men, worship Him,
that one day soon, we’ll go with Him,
and spend eternity with Him.
