God Spoke To Me

GOD SPOKE TO ME I wanted God to speak to me through a roaring, raging fire; I listened closely, but I learned that was not His desire. I wanted God to speak to me through a miracle or sign, And so I searched for all of them, but that was not His design. I wanted God to speak to me through a great philosophy And one had really sounded good, but He said, “That’s not from Me.” And so I sat and wondered long, “Has anybody heard? Or are we all just in the dark?” Then He showed me His word. Man looks for God to speak to Him in strange and funny ways, And so his searching will go on for endless hours and days. He’ll seek a crowd--that seems to be the factor that man draws To make one think God speaks to him or that God’s in the cause. He’ll seek a miracle or sign or listen for a voice, Yet God, though He could work that way has not made it His choice. He speaks to man with simple ways down in his heart to hear, And when he listens carefully and to Him he draws near. The other ways we need not then, for faith’s the honored test, And through our faith we’ll truly find God speaks that way the best.
