God Bless You
“GOD BLESS YOU”
When I would come in or when I would go out,
I could be quite sure without any doubt
That one would come to me and just shake my hand,
And three words would be said by this Godly man.
“God bless you,” he’d utter; he meant it, I know,
And week after week as to church I would go,
I watched and I waited for these words from this man,
So brief, yet so honest, as there he would stand.
I came on that morning to pray once again
And saw as his wife cried along with this man
And prayed for that son who is missing and stray
That somehow you’d hear from him, even that very day.
Then just as quick as those three words He’d speak,
God took him to heaven, all his friends there to greet.
I’m sure as he stood there on streets made of gold
And saw all his loved ones, the great saints of old,
Each one got a handshake, as I often would get,
And each heard those three words as “Bobby” you met.
“God bless you,” he told them, but somehow I feel
Those words that he spoke here now there are so real,
And many have greeted him there in that great land
And you said, “God bless you” to this wonderful man.
And now one more man whom I knew from the day
When God led me here along my life’s way
Has gone on to glory, that land in the blue,
And heard from the Master these words kind and true.
If he can be told what I’d like him to know
Now that he has gone and to heaven did go,
There’s three words I owe him, from times I said few--
The three words he said often, you are, “God bless you.”
