Go Back and Call You Daddy

I don't know What it is that I've done wrong When I was little You and I could get along But as I've grown it only seems What we once had's a memory You're the man that I still call my dad But I'm missing so much more I wish I could go back and call you daddy To the days when I Was always by your side I'd look up to you the man who was my hero To feel the strength of love That once was And see it in your eyes You always write I love you in my cards You say you're proud of me and where I've gone You know that I'll go far But once in a while what would it hurt To hear your mouth say those words Instead we argue bout what I've done And how I could have done it right I wish I could go back and call you daddy To the days when I Was always by your side I'd look up to you the man who was my hero To feel the strength of love That once was And see it in your eyes I've learned lessons But not the kind that I had hoped And now I'm thankful to the good Lord For a son I call my own And you can bet that I will let him know I won't pass down our shadow You know the one that helped build the walls And cause us so much strife I wish I could go back and call you daddy Back to the days of old When I stood by your side To find out exactly when it happened When did you set me free To let me grieve And finally said goodbye I still love you like no other dad I wish somehow we both could try
