Give Life a Chance: Support To Demi

Many plants are down in number Creatures too are being slain Some for sport, others in vain; There’s destruction of the ozone And the threat of acid rain. The great forests are receding And who’ll ever bring them back? Man’s gone off the beaten track At the risk of costly chances, This mad rush he has to check. Give life a chance … we have to act at once. Can’t sit and wait until it is too late. Give life a chance … we have to act at once. Hard we must strive to keep this world alive. Wastes have seeped into the rivers And been dumped into the sea, No one seems to heed the plea; Self-made noose is getting tighter, To fight back we must agree. Lucid water lost its sparkle, Shades of green have changed to grey, Smoggy air has come to stay Whilst that beam of healthy sunshine Has become a deadly ray. Give life a chance … we have to act at once. Can’t sit and wait until it is too late. Give life a chance … we have to act at once. Hard we must strive to keep this world alive. ----------------------------------------------------

Yeah Paul, the Chem. Trails in the sky are a tragedy too! I respect your use of Poetry to raise awareness. " Plants are drown in number..." is a terrific line. J.A.B.

Thank you Justin; every little bit helps. When we get sick we change life-styles and make sacrifices in order to recuperate; same applies to this. cu // paul

Dear Paul, This poem deals with a subject dear to my heart. We "tree-huggers" may never live to see the day when our forests are restored. Sometimes I wish Native Americans were still in charge. Environmentalists can only do so much; we need unity in support if our quest to restore our planet is to succeed. Awesome write, my friend! Love, Carolyn

Glad to find your support on this one too Carolyn. First step is awareness. It's surprising how many people there are who have no idea of the enormity of this problem. Thank you for making your voice heard on here. /x/ paul

First off, great poem! However our waterways in the last 40 years have been greatly cleaned, although the sea is becoming a big issue as a dumping ground now. Without a doubt we have many issues to tackle but its not all doom and gloom. In fact we often focus on band aids instead of focusing on the big issues. As for the ozone, you should read up on the Montreal Protocol, again great progress. Everyone is for the environment as long as someone else has to make the sacrifice, something to ponder.

Good day Arthur. Glad you like the poem. As you say much has been done to remedy the situation. It's not just gloom and doom, but, yes, we do have to make sacrifices, otherwise the good that's being done will be hampered or come undone. // Thank you for the visit and appreciable comments. // paul

LAST WARNING, THE TODDLER, STORM, THE DIVINE PLAN, RUMOR HAS IT, THE BARBARIAN and THE RAGE OF MOTHER EARTH are some of the poems directly dealing with the environment!
