Give Credit

The horse just won the Triple Crown; Hard work and perseverance Resulted in a victory With little interference. The training, grooming, practicing All led up to the win And now the celebrations Must be ready to begin. The jockey surely earned his pay, A trophy his reward But he gave credit, looking up, To “Dios,” or the Lord. Acknowledging a deity Diminishes, to me, The efforts which have been expended Exponentially. And if one’s prayers are answered When the finish line is crossed, What does it say to those who prayed But still, their horses lost?

Ha, ha, ha! Believe it or not -- I can hardly believe it myself -- I found myself praying for a horse named 'Kelso' to win the Triple Crown, way back in the day. (I think he won) … By age 20, I guess, I realized that there are better things to pray for --- like yet another fine poem from Ilene Bauer!! :) gw

I'm speechless, You wrapped this up so perfectly. The whole praying for our side thing is, well, personal, I guess. :)

I share the point of your poem, Ilene. And though I am a believer, I doubt God interferes with so banal as a horse race. As always clearly written. / M

The only ones who give credit, are not god, but visa, master-card and American express! Loved this poem!!!

'My prayer was stronger than yours?'Just joking... I get your point in this perfectly rhymed piece Ilene. Still, I find myself giving credit to the man upstairs! : )

Answer: Neigh! (Competing prayers for peace in Jerusalem have not made any difference at all over THOUSANDS of years!) Well done! Aloha! Rico
