Gilded Cage
Gilded Cage
Outside the window the birds fly free.
Feed their kin, a nest in the tree.
A world to engage in, the whole world to see.
Inside the unseen illness manifests.
Confirmed by untold persuasive tests.
A lifetime prognosis does suggest.
The yearning for a normal existence.
Struggle head on with formidable resistance.
The closer I get, the further the distance.
Comfortable but confined, oasis without refuge.
Warm and dry, a room with a view.
No sympathy, no pity, I implore you.
Soundness of mind, but mindless from routine.
Up or down with nothing in between.
The gilded cage brings a life unforeseen.
