Ghosts of Yesterday

this is a thing I've tried
so many times in the past,
as if, by my will alone,
would bring back gone
moments so very vast

to travel to sites once common
with those we did so adore
their loss so deeply felt
the pain seems too much for me to endure

every time I tried this silly ploy,
hoping to relieve and enjoy,
a day long since gone by
I find myself about to cry

it hurts, it's never kind
no relief from grief we find
I wind up staring at the floor,
until no more could I endure

I drive home then to a house empty
of laughs, and love, and things a'plenty
dry tears inside I weep
but time would not let me keep
the ones who I so miss this day
in every single way
no song, or joke, or kind word
will I forever expect again to be heard

It's out of my control,
I wonder why they stole,
those ones meaning so much, to me
just why, and how, can this be??
