Getting Free
maybe someday I'll be strong
maybe it won't take that long
this time I'm gonna do it right
it started after thinking half the night
with the sun I can finally see the light
I'm no longer going to let you control me
a drug I need to kick to end the need
I used to have the strength before I met you
that was before my addiction to the blues
my heart out pacing yours once pursued
revenge is not a language that I know
the tenses get confusing when bestowed
the things I set aside come at a price
I have looked them over once or twice
even with a ribbon it won't suffice
this is not a poem about feelings sadly forsaken
if that's how you read it, baby you're mistaken
it's a poem about doing what's right for me
clearing out all of my heart's debris
it's a poem about finally getting free
